HOW TO ASSESS DIETARY HISTORY?

2 months old child is weighing  3 kg. His birthweight is 2kg.  You review her positioning and attachment

Signs of good suckling attachment are: •The baby’s chin touches the breast

•His mouth is wide open

His lower lip is turned outwards

•One can see more of the areola above his or her mouth and less below.

 

Corrected and baby started gaining  weight

 

9months old child on complimentary feeds.  He takes only one or two spoon at a time. He is not accepting vegetable

Wt 5.4 kg

Calories 400

Protein 12gm

Breastfeeds plus

Cows milk  500 ml

Aftertakinghistory,decide:

1.Whether the child isgetting adequate calories or not?

2.Whether thechildis getting adequate protins or not?

3.Whether thechildisgetting all food group items or not(if childis not getting any particular food group,you will have to counselto increase that food item)?

4.Whether the childis getting food items with right consistency?

5.Whether the child’sgrowth parameters(weight forage,heightforage,weightfor height;and bodymass index in children>5years of age)are normalb or abnormal?

Added boiled mashed greengram and oil to  complimentary feeds

Slowly picked up weight

 

What is the  calorie and protein requirement @1yr, @4yrs, @8yrs?

Get a 3 day recall

Suggest improvements with high density food

Use oil, ghee
